Since the creation of the United States of America, the topic of race has been a predominant issue. When you go to the bathroom, a restaurant, or even get a drink from the water fountain, there is not a sign that says Whites only or Colored on it. If these events still happen today, riots, killings, lawsuits, strike and every other form of civil unrests are imaginable. It would be a nightmare and a disaster for most of us.The Civil Rights Movement was a span of time when the African Americans endeavor was to acquire their constitutional rights of which they were being deprived. A commendable bearing of that movement was the unachievable triumph that the blacks sought after and built. Its leaders were extremists and used their influence to provoke the American people to abolish segregation among all races. To start with, Rosa Parks also known as the mother of the civil rights movement, revitalized the struggle of racial equality when she refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama. She was inspired by Claudette Colvin to be one of the extremist and to take action in order to make change. Over the years, she had repeatedly disobeyed bus segregation regulations. She was arrested, fingerprinted, and incarcerated. When Parks agreed to have her case contested, it became a cause c? ©lbre in the fight against Jim Crow laws. Her trial for this act of civil disobedience triggered the Montgomery Bus Boycott, one of the largest and most successful mass movements against racial segregation in history, and launched Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the organizers of the boycott, to the forefront of the civil rights movement that fostered peaceful protests to Jim Crow laws. People always say that I didnt give up my seat because I was tired, but that isnt true. I was not tired physically No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in (Parks ). Parkss act of courage in Montgomery, Alabama sparked the push to look squarely at the discrimination victimizing Alabamas black people, and to end segregation. She took the risk and got arrested to earn freedom for the young. She did not bother to care if others disapproved her as long as she was able to teach world the right and wrong. Racism is still with us. But it is up to us to prepare our children for what they have to meet, and, hopefully, we shall overcome (Parks). Her belief on freedom motivated others to look back and actually see the outside world of what is going on. Nevertheless, her refusal to give up her seat to a white man also created a legacy she never could have foreseen. Extremists like Rosa Parks can contribute to political revolution in defence of black lives nationally and around the world. Furthermore, Martin Luther King Jr. inspired many people through his words and actions. King was a great Civil Rights leader who gave his life in the name of freedom. He was a social activist who stood up for the American dream. He practiced everything that he preached, he did not preach or speak values that he himself did not follow. However, he was arrested when he and others were protesting for racial segregation in Birmingham, Alabama. As he sat in the jail, he wrote the Letter from Birmingham. It was written in the margins of a letter posted by the clergymen of Alabama, at this time that sparked his interest and while he inhabited the jail cell for parading around without a permit. This time allowed him the ability to respond to this cynical oppressing. In the letter Letter from Birmingham, king repeats the word extremists. This is in response to being called an extremists and he does and excellent job turning it around in his favor. Will we be extremist for hate or for love? Will be be extremist for the preservation of injustice or for the extension of justice? (King 31). The repetition of the word extremist potentially diminishes the negative connotation associated with being an extremists. For example, he called Jesus an extremist and by doing so king made it seem that everyone went to their extremes to fight for their goal. By doing this he also pointed out that the highest authority in terms of men was an extremist which gave him a certain amount of respect. He persuaded the audience to trust and respect him for the American dream. My fellow clergymen (King 3). He appears to ethos by having his audience understand him in his role as a religious leader. His image as a religious figure tends to be seen as trustworthy,moral, and believable. In addition, King references teachings from renowned Greek philosophers such as Socrates, further establishing his credibility to morals and common sense. He addressed his audience with by treating them as equals in status and stature. It is also significant due to the fact that King was in the jail at the time he wrote his letter. Instead of the rousing campaign speech that everyone had expected, Kennedy offered brief, impassioned remarks for peace that are considered to be one of the great public addresses of the modern era. I had a member of my family killed, but he was killed by a white man. But we have to make an effort in the United States, we have to make an effort to understand, to go beyond these rather difficult times (Kennedy). Kennedy relates to the crowds greif of Kings death by mentioning one of his family members death. He wanted America to realize that it is not for them to lash out in violence and hatred, but to try, love and understand. We can do well in this country. We will have difficult times; weve had difficult times in the past; we will have difficult times in the future (Kennedy). Kennedy wanted to point out that we are together as a nation. That we need to solve and fight together when there is a conflict. Kennedy performed his speech in a very dangerous situation where anything could have happened to him which tells us that he went extreme to fight for the American dream, for the freedom. The power of our words can help to influence one another in times of need. These leaders put an end to segregation by standing out for what was right and calm people when tragedy struck

She feels like her lover is being cruel to her, but really all he is doing is being himself. It is just â€Å"Judas† nature to be the way his is. The girl knows this but she can’t help but loving him and for this reason he is cruel. I believe the definition of this song is brought to life through these words. The girl continues loving the boy even though she knows it is wrong, we can see this in these lines.â€Å"I couldn’t love a man so purely/ Even prophets forgave his crooked way.† In these lines, you can also see that she is deeply in love, she is telling herself that if Jesus can forgive Judas, then she can forgive her lover too. There are two types of love in this song, the good kind that the girl wished for all her life and then the bad kind which she fell into with â€Å"Judas†. You can see the two types of love in these lines: I’ve learned love is like a brick you can/ Build a house or sink a dead body.† In these lines love that works is being compared with love that doesn’t. With love that works, you can build a house, or have a family and have a very happy, healthy, and for some people, exciting life. Love that doesn’t work can kill you, make you suicidal, or convince you to make bad decisions that you normally wouldn’t make if your mind wasn’t clouded with the â€Å"bad† love. The girl is willing to live with her decisions which leads us to the next lines. â€Å"In the most Biblical sense,/ I am beyond repentance/ Fame hooker, prostitute wench, vomits her mind.† In these lines, the girl is referring to herself as a prostitute and an overall person that she doesn’t want to be. The thought of forgiving herself is just not going to be an option to her, but she still knows she has to live with who she is because she cannot live without the person she is in love with. Here, the song adds what I believe to be new information. New information that suggests that the girl may have been in love with two men and is just arguing with herself on which man she wants to choose. One man being a bad boy (Judas) and the other being a good boy who is compared to Jesus. Something is pulling her away from the good boy even though she knows that should love him instead of the bad boy, Judas. You can see this when she says: â€Å"I wanna love you,/But something’s pulling me away from you/ Jesus is my virtue,/Judas is the demon I cling to/ I cling to.† It seems that she wants to choose what is right, which may be a good boy, but in the end, she knows that the bad boy is the only one who is right for her. In the end, she continues back to talking about herself and how she is upset with the choices she has made with her life, but there is nothing she can do because she is in love, you can see this again in these lines: â€Å"I’m just a Holy Fool, oh baby he’s so cruel/But I’m still in love with Judas, baby/ I’m just a Holy Fool, oh baby he’s so cruel/ But I’m still in love with Judas, baby.† When she moves back to these lines, this gives the overall effect that she is still deeply in love with the bad boy Judas and there is nothing she, or anyone else can do about it. This song shows not just the perfect side of love, it shows both sides of love. The song is a true definition falling in love, you are in so deep that you don’t seem to care if you are damaging yourself, your morals, or anything else in your life. There are people from all walks of life being held in one prison or another across our great country for crimes they’ve committed or allegedly committed against mankind. Be it at the state, federal or county level, the U. S. prison system does not discriminate with regards to those who are physically challenged. Be it a prisoner who is mentally challenged or one whom is confined to a wheelchair, if they have committed a crime and are found guilty of such, they will be sentenced to facility that under most circumstances are equipped to handle prisoners with special needs. Take for example the criminally insane or those suffering with various kinds of mental illness: Round about 1955 the number of mental institution experienced a drawdown of types, in that they were not building any new facilities, despite the fact that approximately forty of the existing one’s had been shut down or were scheduled to be shut down. This change prompted the prison system to take over the role of caring for mentally ill inmates. As more and more prisons grew so did the role of the prison system to care for the influx of the special needs prisoners. Prisons were able to house and care for some 45,000 prisoners including those who were mentally ill, compared to that of a mental institutions ability to house some 3000 in a mental hospital. Perhaps one of the biggest drawback or downfalls related to this concept is that of the ability to rehabilitate the mentally ill. Because the prison system was/is not geared for actions such as this, many of those who are diagnosed with a mental illness usually find themselves serving their time, only to return to confinement a few years later, due to the prison systems inability to adequately treat and card for their sickness. But let’s not throw this all on the prison system, as the private sector has just as much responsibility for this shortfall/s as does the penal system. Many communities simply do not have the funds necessary to open and operated programs to take care of the mentally ill. For those that do have something in place to combat the problem, their efforts seem to fall far short of the need. There seems to be far more people in need of help than the help that is available, and the more we look into the problem the more we see that this is not just limited to adult men and women, but children as well. The end result of which is the criminally insane sometimes find themselves back on the streets, as does many of the mentally ill. While incarceration may be somewhat more difficult on someone with a mental illness, prison officials try and combat this by housing the mentally ill in separate wards, to reduce violence, combat stress, and maintain order. Prison officials today try and provide specialized training and equipped to those who work with the mentally ill. Although improvements have been made, there is still much to accomplish as some patients do not transition well into some of the rehabilitation programs made available to them; for example the Drug and Alcohol program, many officials think that mentally ill patients can and does usually become extremely disruptive, during counseling sessions, which causes setbacks and limits the progress of others. Therefore, many of the disable, mentally ill, or otherwise hard to reach inmates/patients are turned away from rehabilitative parts of the program built around small group settings. Honestly speaking, there is very little room for care of the mentally ill within the prison system, as few places are equipped with the staff and specialist needed to care for these special patients. Try as we may, we can’t effectively make the connection needed to make a difference in these individuals lives. Not to mention the attitude/s the outside community takes towards those suffering with mental handicaps. The lack of compassion, care and concern towards these less fortunate individuals does little to help the situation inside or outside prison walls, as we’re all struggling to make the best of a bad situation. We must stay focused and be extremely flexible as we seek to make changes in this area, in particular in that every failure has the potential to have widespread affects on everyone, including the department, and the community into which some of these people may be released. Taking a lackluster attitude towards helping these people rebuild their lives simply will not work. We must be committed to the care of prisons with special needs just as if they were able to afford whatever treatment is available.
